Cholesterol Drug Use Rises in Young

October 31, 2007

New data from Medco Health Solutions indicates the use of cholesterol-lowering drugs among people aged 20 to 44 jumped 68% between 2001 and 2006.

That translates to an estimated 4.2 million Americans who are now using cholesterol medications. Experts speculate that the number reflects the higher rates of obesity, hypertension, and cholesterol-related problems among the young, and the fact that doctors are getting more aggressive with preventive treatments.
