Economy leaves students passing over dream schools
Tas Drake, a recent graduate of Boulder High School, applied to a swath of colleges, including private schools in the Pacific Northwest.
But in the fall he’ll stay local, enrolling at the University of Colorado, where he says he’s interested in the environmental studies program.
Even with scholarship offers to out-of-state schools, “CU was drastically cheaper than anywhere else,” Drake said. His parents will pay his tuition, and the economy weighed heavily on his college selection.
