canadaqbank opinion and some tips

March 20, 2011

I was asked not too far ago from a prep4usmle member @icarus a few questions regarding canadaqbank.

icarus: “I am freaking out, I have the MCCEE in 11 days, i only read kaplan notes, and doing canadaqbank, and getting 70% average (did around 2000 questions), however when i tried to solve the questions at the end of the Toronto notes chapters i found them very difficult. Can you please tell me my odds in passing the damn thing? i am seriously freaking out”.

There will be many stupid qns, and that could make you upset during the exam, so be prepare for that. With 70% on this rediculous canadaqbank you will pass with very good score. The qbank is very silly. You probably noticed that the questions are the same as the one floating around Internet. The answers are copied from websites such as AFP. Just copy and paste part of the answer in Google and will see. However, because of the lack of better qbank (Canada is always way behind US) the MCCEE candidates have no choice but to spend some extra dollars. There will be 10-12 qns the same as the canadaqbank or http://mccee.webs.com/

You will pass. Just send me a PM when you get you score.

icarus: Also, and sorry if you have a headache from my questions now, is there level of difficulty of the MCCEE (real one) at least similar to that of blocks of canadaqbank? thats my only way of assessment ….

USMLEMD: They say that on the real MCCEE the level of difficulty increases based on your correct answers, which means that if you start facing more difficult qns you are doing well.

I would say, don’t change anything in your preparation at this point. You are doing everything well. My scores were similar to yours, don’t remember the exact number. No worries, you will pass with very good score.

icarus: Like you are saying, theres no point changing anything in the preparation now. By the way, i went to the website of MCC and noticed that there is not document to bring to the center (except for the two pieces of identification), do you confirm that (I mean, theres no paper to pring and bring like the USMLE).

Also, they say once you get in the examination room you cant leave it!!! and then they say you can take short breaks, what do they mean??? what i if someone wanted to go to the bathroom?!?! (In step 1, i used to go to the bathroom every block!!!!)

USMLEMD: I dont remember about bringing paper, but u better call and ask them. You can take breaks but you cannot stop the time, it keep running, however the questions are not long, so you will have time to go for break.

You may want to look into other sources for questions as well for the MCCEE.. You should check Ultimate Review books, Ottawa Notes, and LMCC exams.
